Aggregates and landscaping materials: pricing and delivery driven by postcode
MB Wilkes supplies aggregates and landscaping materials in Dorset. Selling heavy, bulky goods online is first and foremost about logistics - and that is what we coded into the new store. Development: our team, white-label for the B4B agency.
Client and context
MB Wilkes is a supplier of aggregates and landscaping materials from Dorset, England, with its own fleet and quarry. The outdated previous platform could not cope with the rules that decide profitability in this trade: price and delivery cost depend on the type of product, the packaging and where the customer lives.
Challenge
The store had to look after the logistics itself: block orders from outside the service area, adjust prices and delivery rates to the postcode, and respect holidays and minimum lead times when a delivery date is chosen. Regular customers also wanted to repeat orders quickly without clicking through the catalogue again.
Solution
We built a store on the E20 Platform with a pricing and delivery rules engine: postcode-based adjustments, blocking of out-of-area orders, delivery date management with holiday blocking and minimum lead times. Customer accounts gained a repeat-order function, customer and order data was migrated from the legacy system, and order confirmation emails and discount code tools were added. The video content featuring the fleet and quarry was produced by B4B's media team.
