A competitions portal: entries, payments and live league tables
Bowls England, the national governing body for outdoor lawn bowls, ran its competitions on paper. We built an interactive portal: accounts, entries, payments, fixtures and tables that update as results are entered - white-label development for the B4B agency.
Client and context
Bowls England is responsible for outdoor lawn bowls competitions in England: events, leagues, fixtures and results. Administration relied on paperwork, and members across a wide age range expected a simple, accessible tool that works on a phone, tablet and laptop.
Challenge
The portal had to take competition entries together with payment, run the competitions and show live league tables and fixture grids - which means processing results according to complex rules and formulas, without errors and without manual recalculation. Accessibility for a wide age demographic was a condition, not an extra.
Solution
We built a competitions portal with user accounts, competition entries and online payments. Scores entered in the portal automatically update league tables and fixture grids, and match history is stored and available to look up. The logic for processing fixtures and scores is custom code written for the governing body's rules. The portal is responsive and hosted on B4B's servers.
